SEXUAL DYSFUNCTIONS AND DESIRE: FUNCTIONAL RESPONSE FOR MEN AND WOMEN

If you want to know more about sexual dysfunctions, we suggest you consult any of the excellent resources.
Experienced by both heterosexual and homosexual individuals and couples, sexual dysfunctions sometimes lead to ISD or occur as a result of desire difficulties. For example, intense anxiety about failure to attain or maintain an erection, as well as repeated disappointment about not reaching orgasm, may cause individuals to avoid sexual situations and inhibit their sexual desire. Conversely, absent or infrequent sexual desire creates situations in which individuals—hoping to please or appease their partners—engage in sexual activity even though they are not particularly interested in sex. They tend to experience less excitement or arousal, which may in turn lead to problems of impotence or inhibited orgasm. To further complicate matters, men in particular may complain of impotence when their real problem is ISD. They find it easier to tell their partners that they cannot get an erection than to say, "I don't feel desire for you," or "I am not interested in having sex with you."
