One or two multivitamin tablets twice daily to correct nutritional deficiencies. Lower dose to two tablets in the morning once you have achieved your weight-loss goal.
One teaspoon of combined magnesium and chromium powder three times a day to assist in controlling insulin levels.
A protein powder such as soy or whey protein: one to two teaspoons, three times a day, to boost protein levels. These powders contain very small amounts of carbohydrates and do not hurt the kidneys. They are useful for men with very busy lifestyles who do not have time to prepare snacks in the office and who eat too late in the evening or who exercise heavily.
Two capsules of omega 3 and 6 oil twice a day. If you have high triglyceride or cholesterol levels, take three capsules twice a day.
You may also consider taking an anti-oxidant supplement. If so, make sure it contains chromium, a trace element which helps control sugar cravings; and a nutrient called L-carnitive, which picks up stored fats and carries them to the cell nucleus to be burnt to generate energy. Coenzyme Q10 also assists this process. You could also try the anti-oxidant alpha lipoic acid, which has been proven to lower high levels of insulin. Check with your health store or naturopath for a combination of these nutrients and correct dosages.
Sugar cravings
Ask your naturopath for a herb called Gymnema sylvestre in liquid form. Place five to six drops on the tongue when you are craving sugar. This herb, which grows in India and China, is known to stop sugar cravings and has been used in the Ayurvedic system to | assist in weight loss and balancing blood sugar levels.
